Where are my Aldi shoppers at? I loooove Aldi.
The pros:
The cons:
To me, the pros definitely outweigh the cons, and as a fat-loss dietitian – there are SO many fantastic finds you can add to your cart to support your goals. Let’s get into it:
These are not Aldi exclusive but I always see them in the refrigerated section! A great way to make a high protein, lower carb wrap or sandwich. Lately I’ve been using these and spreading a thin layer of cream cheese, cinnamon, and a light sprinkle of sweetener of choice and pan frying for a couple minutes – a high-protein cinnamon roll!
There is a great selection of yogurt options at Aldi! The key is to avoid the ones with a lot of added sugar. I often choose these! Too Good is not always available there, but I see it a lot. We use the nonfat plain Greek yogurt as a sour cream swap in my house – tastes super similar to us and much higher in protein!
I usually see a handful of Perfect Bar flavors in the refrigerated section! A great on-the-go snack option. Not the highest in protein for a bar, but they definitely have good healthy fats, some fiber, about 12-15g of protein.
These are fantastic for an office lunch or snack! They come in a variety of flavors and have protein, fats, and fiber all in one! Great to keep blood sugar steady and your cravings nonexistent.
So many great chicken sausage flavor options at Aldi! These are amazing for a super easy high-protein dinner. Just slice into coins and place on a baking sheet with cubed potatoes and chopped vegetables of choice. Drizzle with olive oil, salt, pepper, and other seasonings of choice and roast for 30-40 minutes!
Aldi’s brand of cottage cheese (Friendly Farms) is one of my favorites! Just great to have on hand for a ready to eat protein source.
Talk about ridiculous easy protein! Again, great to have on hand for an easy wrap or to add to any salad – or eat it on its own!
These don’t have the best ingredients ever like Kevin’s meals or Reel Good products – but I like to call it an “emergency meal” option. Literally just put on a baking sheet and bake for 40 minutes. They are high in protein and not too high in carbs. Definitely delicious and, again, much better than fast food if you’re short on time.
Aldi has some excellent frozen seafood options for a GREAT price. I like to have frozen salmon filets in my freezer for a super easy dinner. I will throw them in my air fryer and they come out great in about 15 minutes. Can’t beat it.
(Take frozen filet out of the packaging, cover in a light amount of olive or avocado oil, salt, pepper, cumin, garlic powder. Air fry at 390 for 7 minutes and then flip for another 7 minutes. No need to defrost!)
This is Aldi’s version of the Rx bar! They are almost exactly the same and a great bar to have on hand for a snack on the go. They come in a few flavors as well.
Don’t sleep on Aldi’s selection of tuna pouches! Just like the StarKist creations, they come in a variety of flavors and are such an easy protein source for a packaged lunch or quick salad.
Aldi actually has a wide variety of nuts for a really great price. I typically get nuts here (especially if you don’t want a big bulk bag like at Costco). Great to have on hand for healthy fats, a quick snack, to add to a smoothie, etc.
We always grab a couple salad kits at Aldi! They have several different flavors and are such an easy lunch or dinner with air-fried chicken nuggets or any protein.
Aldi has lots of frozen veggie options in general, but I also love to grab a bag of riced cauliflower gut to have on hand. I will mix into ground beef or turkey to amp up the volume and fiber! You can also add riced cauliflower to a smoothie for more fiber and it doesn’t change the taste!
These are an Aldi treasure for a sweet treat with simple ingredients. A serving does have 9g of added sugar, but it’s pretty whole food based and something to enjoy in moderation (and a great alternative to other cookies or candy on the market).
Last but not least, Aldi has a great selection of hummus! A great high-fiber and healthy fat snack to use for sliced veggies for the week or to add to a wrap. This is a good staple to have on hand.
There are definitely lots of other good finds at Aldi for fat loss! Remember, one the biggest foundations to support fat loss is eating PHFF (protein, healthy fat, and fiber). You can read more about this strategy we teach all of our clients here.
